Wally's Café: The Soundtrack of the South End

Joseph "Wally" Walcott opened Wally's café in the 1940s as one of the few Black-owned jazz clubs in Boston. The café attracted many jazz legends including Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughn and more. In the 1950s Wally's Café found that college student musicians were a great source of continuous talent.

Nearly 75 years later, the business is in the hands of the third generation of the same family. Wally's Café still attracts students from all over the world with performances seven days a week. Commonly refered to as the musician's training ground, many students that have performed at Wally's went on to become Grammy Award winners.
