Basic Black: Homosexuality and the Black Community
(Originally broadcast on July 1, 2011)After a profanity-laced performance earlier this month, comedian Tracy Morgan came under fire for his provocative (some would say hateful) remarks regarding homosexuality. But June 2011 has been a particularly newsworthy month in regards to similar episodes which have prompted a discussion about homophobia in the black community.
Our panel: Latoyia Edwards, anchor, New England Cable News; Kim McLarin, Assistant Professor of Writing, Literature, and Publishing, Emerson College; Phillip Martin, Senior Investigative Reporter, 89.7 WGBH Radio; Rev. Dr. Evan Hines, Eliot Congregational Church of Roxbury, and Rev. Irene Monroe, Syndicated Columnist.
