BOSTON — In a 1980 debate, Ronald Reagan asked a pointed question: Are you better off today than you were four years ago? Over 30 years later, the question still resonates — especially with an economic downturn that grinds on and on.
An upcoming report from our partner MassINC has some disturbing indicators for the Bay State:
- 1 in 4 residents are unemployed or underemployed or have given up looking for work.
- 143,000 jobs were lost in the state in the last decade.
- 17% of residents think the next generation will be better off.
And yet, many of the people we found still feel that opportunity is within reach. Hear, watch and read their stories this week on WGBH 2, 89.7 Boston Public Radio and wgbh.org as we explore optimism, economic security and the American Dream in our series Where We Live.
