The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the 33rd annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards nominations, recognizing WGBH with 11 nominations. PBS garnered 37 nominations, more than NBC, ABC, HBO, CNN, Discovery Channel or National Geographic.

WGBH’s Frontline received nine nominations, including two nominations in the category of Outstanding Coverage of a Breaking News Story in a News Magazine for “Revolution in Cairo” and “Syria Undercover” and two nominations in the Outstanding Investigative Journalism category for “A Perfect Terrorist” and “The Anthrax Files.”

WGBH’s science series Nova was recognized with a nomination in the Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story Long Form category for “Engineering Ground Zero” and Outstanding Science and Technology Programming for “The Fabric of the Cosmos with Brian Greene.”

In addition, seven titles in the POV series were nominated for 15 awards. POV is public television’s showcase for independent nonfiction films, presented by a consortium of public television stations including WGBH. POV films accounted for four of the five nominees for Best Documentary: “Armadillo,” “Better This World,” “Enemies of the People” and “Last Train Home.”
