The Daily Drink: Maple-Pecan Squares

"What to drink with these Maple-Pecan Squares depends, at least a little, on what time of day you eat them. If they’re on the breakfast table or strike you as a midday snack, then you’re likely to have your cup of coffee or a glass of milk on the side. With so much flavor and sweetness coming from the squares themselves, I’d suggest skipping the sugar in your coffee. If, on the other hand, you’ll be enjoying the squares as dessert, coffee still works — but so would a nutty, caramel-y sherry such as Sandeman Royal Corregidor Rich Old Oloroso ($22). Try the sherry, and you’re enacting the like-with-like (as opposed to the contrast-for-effect) beverage pairing rule.
