Rossini's Overlooked Otello

Were it not for Verdi's version of the same drama, Rossini's Otello might be considered one of the finest of all musical settings of Shakespeare - and it probably should be anyway! In recent years, the opera has finally been getting its due, as demonstrated in this stirring production from Paris.

From the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, conductor Evelino Pidò leads Rossini's Otello with the Lyon Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

The cast includes

John Osborne as Otello
Anna Caterina Antonacci as Desdemona
Dmitry Korchak as Rodrigo
José Manuel Zapata as Iago
José Maria Lo Monaco as Emilia
Marco Vinco as Emilio
Tansel Akzebek as Doge of Venice
Fabrice Constans as Lucio
