Oct. 8: Happy Birthday Camille! Happy Birthday Little Sister!

What a fun coincidence---my little sister (ok, she married before I did and has kids in high school and college but... she’ll always be my little sister) has a birthday tomorrow---and one that she shares with Camille Saint-Saëns.  He was born October 9th, 1835 in France....she was born in 19-blah-blah here in Boston. I want to acknowledge them both...so..for you Little Sister, I’ll be playing Jean-Philippe Collard  performing Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Rapsodie d’Auvergne” and “Wedding Cake.”  (Saint-Saëns didn’t write “Birthday Cake” or I would have chosen that, of course). And yes, you get to have all the frosting roses....

Meantime ... check out Saint-Saëns himself playing “Rapsodie d’Auvergne” on a piano roll.  Pretty amazing that we have this recording and that he was about 70 when he recorded it.
