There are performers who are so excellent at what they do that I think their performances define certain pieces of music. Anne Akiko Meyers’ rendition of “Meditation” from Massenet’s opera Thais is one of those. I have followed her career ever since that CD was issued back in 1993. Anne has released a new CD titled “Seasons...dreams...” with pieces as far ranging as Beethoven’s Sonata No. 5 “Spring” to George Gershwin’s “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess. I’ll be playing a couple of cuts from her CD this morning. Meantime, she’s really good about updating her myspace page...check it out.
