Clarinetist James Campbell and Pianist Marc-André Hamelin

Every now and then, two globe-trotting musicians wind up in the same place at the same time.  And I get a nice feeling of satisfaction when I  manage to arrange a musical meeting for  such  artists – especially if they’ve been  crossing paths for years and years  while only rarely getting to play together.  Canadian clarinetist James Campbell lives in Indiana, and Canadian pianist Marc-André Hamelin lives in Boston.

They had a wonderful time catching up with each other and working through this terrific set of music.

Johannes Brahms's Clarinet Sonata in F minor, Op. 120
Alban Berg's Four Pieces for Clarinet and Piano
Francis Poulenc's Sonata for Clarinet and Piano.
