Costa has been helping entertain audiences on KISS 108’s Matty in the Morning show nearly every morning for the past 30 years. On weekdays, he delivers news and entertainment headlines as part of the Matty team, while manning his own Top 30 Countdown program on Saturdays. He is also the host of TV Diner, a restaurant review show airing on NECN.
“I was amazed by the level of competition last year,” said Costa. “We’re excited to be opening up the completion to the entire state this season and hope to generate even more community support and pride for all that the participating students have accomplished.”
Inspired by the original College Bowl, a popular televised quiz bowl that dates back to the 1960s, High School Quiz Show emphasizes the importance of academics. For Costa, hosting a program that showcases high school students is a natural fit, and not his first foray into working with teens on television. Early in his career, he earned a Children’s Television Award for Rap Around, a talk show on WBZ that focused on teen issues.
Costa is an alumnus of the New Preparatory School in Cambridge and attended Merrimack College before transferring to Emerson College, where he graduated with a degree in English.
