WGBH's New High-Definition TV Service Mirrors WGBH 2 Lineup
In March 2008, WGBH rolled out a digital high-definition TV service that mirrors our WGBH 2 lineup.(WGBH's previous high-definition service was a loop of programs supplied by PBS.) This new digital HD channel — Comcast 802, RCN 602, FiOS 502, Charter 751, Cox 703, or digital 2.1 — is available to anyone in our region with HD reception capability. The new channel distributes both high-definition programs and up-converted transmissions of standard-format programs.
A number of WGBH programs are already being produced in high definition, including Antiques Roadshow, Frontline, and Nova, along with signature PBS series such NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Over the next year, as WGBH and PBS continue to expand HD production, our viewers will be able to enjoy more and more of their favorite TV programs in a wide-screen, high-definition format that delivers significantly improved picture and sound quality. Stay tuned!
