Backstage with Brian Bell
and Harold Wright
Harold Wright joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1971 and brought with him an understated yet virtuoso presence as principal clarinet. In this conversation, taped only months before Wright's death in 1993, he discussed with Brian Bell the difference between German and French clarinet playing and how his playing took a bit from both. Also, is the BSO the most European of American orchestras? (Photo: Bela Kalman, courtesy BSO Archives)
