WGBH in the Community

wgbh public day In a city that boasts some of the world's most respected institutions, WGBH is proud to play a part in nurturing our community. Serving local audiences is at the heart of what we do — especially because we are Boston's only locally owned, independent TV station and the first homegrown public radio station on Cape Cod and the Islands.

On the air and online, we highlight the people and issues right in our own backyard. You'll find us out and about, recording live performances — from the Lowell Folk Festival to the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. We help teachers make the most of our resources in the classroom. We collaborate with educational and cultural organizations all around New England. Some of our partnerships go back more than 50 years; others spring from our coverage of today's lively scene. They result in screenings, forums, and other events that extend the value of WGBH's broadcasts and services.

wgbh public day Giving back to the communities that support us is a WGBH tradition. A Community Advisory Board helps us keep our finger on the pulse of the neighborhoods we serve. We are an active member of the Brighton Board of Trade, Allston Board of Trade, Brighton Main Streets, and the Presentation School Foundation. A WGBH Speakers Bureau is available to local business and community groups and organizations. The WGBH Kuhn Memorial Scholarship (named for a longtime WGBH executive) is presented each year to deserving Brighton High School seniors. WGBH employees embrace our annual holiday-season toy drive on behalf of local elementary schoolchildren. And we were proud to support breast cancer research and care at Caritas St. Elizabeth's Medical Center with proceeds from the Walsh Movers/iShred "Pink Crates" used in our move from Allston to Brighton.
