The dB's.

The dB's.

Brian Blauser / Mountain Stage

The power-pop band is best known for a pair of '80s LPs (Stands for Decibels and Repercussion) that became cult classics and helped influence a generation of guitar-driven music. The group recently reunited after 30 years to release a new album, Falling Off the Sky.

The newly reunited power-pop pioneers in The dB's make their first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live in Charleston, W.V. Often described as the band that filled the gap between Big Star and R.E.M. in the early '80s, The dB's helped change the course of guitar-driven power-pop for years to come.

The dB's albums Stands for Decibels and Repercussion were issued on the British label Albion and became cult classics, and the band's members — who include Chris Stamey, Peter Holsapple, Gen Holden and Will Rigby — continued with successful music careers in their own right. Their new album Falling Off the Sky is the first with the original dB's lineup in 30 years. Drummer Rigby, who's been a member of Steve Earle's touring band The Dukes for years, had a scheduling conflict, so the three remaining players are joined by Chris Stephenson on drums, as well as Brett Harris on organ and harmonica.

This Mountain Stage performance was originally published on September 27, 2012.
