Natasha Khan recently performed "Lilies" — the opening track from Bat For Lashes' third album, The Haunted Man — live at WFUV's studios in New York City. Watch the British singer play the autoharp while hitting pitch-perfect high notes during a session that sounds anything but stripped down.

Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes presented some intriguing guises for her first two albums, from Fur and Gold's willowy siren to Two Suns' blonde-wigged alter ego. But for 2012's The Haunted Man, Khan stripped herself bare — and not just for the cover of her album.

The Haunted Man was forged from trying experiences. Plagued by a serious bout of writer's block, Khan set off on a walkabout for three years, taking time to garden in Sussex, toss around ideas with Beck in California, and finally reconnect with longtime collaborator David Kosten and new co-producer Dan Carey in London.

Khan says the door to the album finally swung open with "Lilies," a tenderly conceived track detailing a passage from ragged despair to genuine hope. Khan and guitarist Ben Christophers visited WFUV in early January and performed "Lilies" acoustically, offering a window into Khan's latest work that felt fragile, intimate and revelatory.
