The Texas singer-songwriter returns to play songs from his genre-blending album Big Station.

Austin, Texas, singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo makes his fifth appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown. Known for mixing rock, punk, country and folk, Escovedo was named Artist of the Decade by No Depression magazine at the end of the '90s.

Escovedo is widely loved across the styles from which he draws influence. When he was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness in the early 2000s, fellow musicians — including Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, The Jayhawks and Calexico — rushed to his aid, playing scores of benefit concerts and recording a tribute album.

Escovedo's latest record — Big Station, from which the entirety of this set is drawn — was co-written with his frequent collaborator, Chuck Prophet. Keeping true to Escovedo's genre-blending roots, it features the full-throttled rocker "Man of the World," along with the Spanish-language "Sabor a Mi," a classic Latin pop song that dates back to the middle of the 20th century.
