The singer, songwriter and violinist had a prolific year in 2012, releasing both Break It Yourself (one of All Songs Considered listeners' favorite albums of 2012) and Hands of Glory. Watch Bird perform the latter's opening track, "Three White Horses," live at The Current's Twin Cities studios.

This year saw two releases from prolific Chicago indie-pop singer-songwriter Andrew Bird. Released in March, his new album Break It Yourself turned out to be one of All Songs Considered listeners' favorite albums of 2012 — another showcase for Bird's clever songwriting, eclectic musicianship and inventive loop-based approach to playing and recording.

Earlier this fall, Bird released Hands of Glory, an eight-song companion album to Break It Yourself that featured a more rustic, folksy take on his established sound. The collection leans heavily on covers of tunes by artists ranging from Townes van Zandt to Minneapolis' own Alpha Consumer.

While touring in support of Hands of Glory, Bird stopped by The Current's studios before his First Avenue gig on Dec. 17 to chat with Steve Seel and play a few songs, including "Three White Horses."
