The band is based in Brooklyn, but its sound is taken straight from Appalachia. Spirit Family Reunion plays Mountain Stage for the first time, showcasing the chops it's honed by playing the busy streets and subways of New York.

Spirit Family Reunion makes its first appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the historic Keith Albee Theater in Huntington, W.V., in partnership with the Marshall Artists Series.

Based in Brooklyn yet heavily influenced by old-time Appalachian string-band music, Spirit Family Reunion has already earned a spot at the Newport Folk Festival and toured with Alabama Shakes and the legendary Levon Helm. Comparisons to established acts like The Felice Brothers and Old Crow Medicine Show write themselves, but Spirit Family Reunion's five members have gone their own way, playing the streets and subway stations of New York City and taking their music on the road in a battered conversion van.

Banjo player Maggie Carson, fiddler Mat Davidson and guitarist Nick Panken share lead-vocal duties, and are joined by Stephen Weinheimer on washboard and Peter Pezzimenti on percussion.

Set List

  • "The Night Replaced The Day"
  • "No Separation"
  • "Troubles Just Like Mine"
