Singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky makes her 10th appearance on Mountain Stage at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.V. Recorded live on the eve of Hurricane Sandy, Kaplansky's performance exudes a sense of urgency and energy, as she was no doubt concerned about beating the storm back to her home and family in New York City.
Appropriately, Kaplansky's set is drawn entirely from her latest album Reunion, which was inspired by her relationships with family members. Kaplansky closes with "Sleep Well," a heartbreaking master class in making the personal universal.
A renaissance woman, Kaplansky left music in the early '80s to pursue a career in clinical psychology, earning a Ph.D and working in private practice. In addition to her solo work, Kaplansky has been a member of the folk supergroups Cry Cry Cry and Red Horse.
