After meeting in Boston in 2007, David Wax and Suz Slezak created a unique sound called "Mexo-Americana" — traditional American roots music played with Mexican rhythms and instrumentation. Now, they perform and record as David Wax Museum.

David Wax Museum makes its second appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.V. Singer and guitarist David Wax teamed up with violinist and singer Suz Slezak after the two met in Boston in 2007. Fueled by a love of Mexican folk music Wax cultivated while spending summers there, the pair combines Mexican rhythms and instrumentation with American roots-music traditions, forming a style of music dubbed "Mexo-Americana."

Slezak, who sings lead in the beautifully haunting "Wondrous Love," often plays a traditional Mexican instrument called a quijada, which is fashioned from the jawbone of a donkey and is a precursor to the modern vibraslap. Wax and Slezak are joined here by Greg Glassman on bass and leona, plus Philip Mayer on drums and percussion.
