Did you know the world-renowned actor enjoys writing and performing folk music in his spare time? Believe it or not, he's been doing it for more than three decades. Listen to the singer-songwriter in this session of Mountain Stage.

While you know him as an actor, Jeff Daniels has been writing songs and playing guitar for more than 30 years. He records and tours when his stage and screen careers allow for it. In his second appearance on Mountain Stage, Daniels performs some of his more humorous tunes, along with the title track to his album Grandfather's Hat. It's a personal tune about the hat Daniels wears while performing.

His fourth album, Live at the Purple Rose, was recorded at the theater Daniels started in his home town of Chelsea, Michigan. Daniels is also a playwright, and his play, "Best of Friends," premiered at the Purple Rose.

This Mountain Stage performance was originally published September 28, 2010.
