Jo Sullivan Loesser met Broadway composer Frank Loesser when she was cast in his show The Most Happy Fella. The two later married and Jo Sullivan Loesser left show business for 17 years to raise their two children and help her husband with his writing.

Jo Sullivan Loesser met Broadway composer Frank Loesser when she was cast in his show The Most Happy Fella. The two later married and Jo Sullivan Loesser left show business for 17 years to raise their two children and help her husband with his writing.

Since her husband's death in 1969, Jo Sullivan Loesser has worked to preserve and promote his work, through shows, performances and recordings.

Jo Sullivan Loesser tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross that her husband emphasized lyrics over melody in his work. She says that working with Frank Loesser as a singer could be very demanding — he once quarreled with Frank Sinatra because he disliked Sinatra's performance in the film version of Guys and Dolls.
